Elizabeth Avalos is a freelance musician, educator, and multi-instrumentalist based in the Greater Milwaukee Area. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, Elizabeth performs on violin, upright bass, and folk bass/guitarrón, working across a diverse range of musical styles and ensembles.
As a versatile performer, Elizabeth has experience performing with mariachi ensembles, chamber groups, Latin, salsa, and jazz groups, as well as orchestral and mandolin ensembles. Their work includes serving as a substitute musician with the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra and Racine Symphony Orchestra, as well as subbing with the Milwaukee Mandolin Orchestra and various ensembles throughout the Greater Milwaukee Area. Their broad musical background allows them to move comfortably between classical, traditional, Latin, and contemporary styles.
In addition to performing, Elizabeth is an experienced music educator who has taught students ranging in age from 5 to 18. They have taught at UCC for seven years, working with young musicians at various stages of their musical development. Their teaching focuses on building strong technical foundations while helping students develop confidence, musicality, and a lasting appreciation for music.
Elizabeth’s own musical education began at a young age. They are a graduate of the Latino Arts Strings Program and the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO), participating in both programs from ages 9 through 18. These formative experiences played an important role in shaping their development as both a musician and educator and continue to influence their commitment to creating meaningful musical opportunities for young people.
Through both performance and teaching, Elizabeth brings together a wide-ranging musical background with a passion for collaboration, education, and community-based music making.
