A native of central Texas, violist Ria Hodgson began violin lessons at the age of 6 through the Suzuki Method and continued through her undergraduate degree at Arizona State University where she studied violin with Jonathan Swartz and viola with Nancy Buck. In 2013 she moved to Chicago, IL to pursue a master’s degree in viola performance from DePaul University with Rami Solomonow. Though the Midwestern winters were a shock after a lifetime in the Southwest, Ria earned a Master’s of Music in 2015 and stayed in Chicago after graduation where she performed frequently with the Civic orchestra of Chicago, as well as the Northbrook, Rockford, and Quad City Symphony orchestras.
In addition to her career as a performer, Ria is a Suzuki Certified violin and viola teacher. While in Chicago, she taught private lessons, group classes, and chamber music across the city and was a part-owner of the South Side Suzuki Cooperative- a collective of teachers providing music education to students in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago.
Ria is excited to be starting the next chapter of her Midwestern journey in Madison, WI and she is thrilled to be a part of the Maestro Makers family.
